- Place: Assualt & Riots can be committed in any place public or private whereas Affray must be committed in a public place.
- Number of persons required to commit the offence: Assault may be committed by one or more, affray may be committed by two or more and riot must be committed by 5 or more persons.
- Common Object: In assualt, there may or may not be any common object, in affray there is no common object and in riot there must be a common object.
- Against what is offence committed: Assault is an offence against a person or an individual, affray is offence against the public peace and riot is violence used by an unlawful assembly of five or more persons.
- Punishment: Assualt is three months or Rs. 500 or both (Sections 352), affray is one month or Rs. 100 or both (Section 160) and riot is two years, fine or both (Section 147).
